Innovation Award to Cavaliere Fabio Perini: "In the future, we will do even better"
The official ceremony for the presentation of the Innovation Award 2024 to Cavaliere Fabio Perini took place last week in Lucca. The award was presented by the President of the Province, Marcello Pierucci, and the Mayor, Mario Pardini. Both emphasized that this, the first edition of the award, could only honour the ingenuity and avant-garde vision of an entrepreneur who revolutionized tissue paper technology, contributing to the Lucca district becoming a global reference for the industry. Thanks to him, the area is now home to world-leading multinational companies in the sector.
Fabio Perini's career began early: at just 17 years old, he invented a machine for adjusting felts, using the gearbox from a Vespa. In 1960, he started his entrepreneurial career with the creation of an automatic device for tissue paper processing and later, the surface unwinding system, now a global standard. His entrepreneurial energy and skill to look beyond existing solutions led him to file nearly 100 patents. However, on many occasions, he chose not to patent his inventions, preferring to spread them as global standards rather than limit their use.
Fabio Perini also innovated in the nautical sector, with Perini Navi and the development of the first automated systems for managing large sailing yachts with reduced crews. Perini's success also spread to Joinville, Brazil, where the Perini Business Park, the largest multi-sector technological-industrial hub in South America, was established. In Italy, he revived his passion for the tissue sector with the creation of Futura Spa, a company that is now a technological leader in the sector thanks to numerous patents and a constant search for innovative solutions.
Fabio Perini attributes his success to the ability to tackle concrete problems and solve them with solutions that always create new horizons. "I have never created innovations that did not guarantee real advantages," he explains, "and I have always surrounded myself with young people, strongly believing in collaboration and mutual respect."
